Every button opens Trip.com (Ctrip), where you book with your passport name, pay in your own currency, and get a QR-code voucher. It's peak summer — pre-book everything 2–7 days out; pandas, Universal, Leshan and the Great Wall sell out same-day.

Three to handle specially: the Wukong concert is sold only via Damai/Maoyan (Chinese app, real-name) — you're already set ✅. The Forbidden City and China Science & Technology Museum use strict real-name systems and close Mondays — for the palace, book a Trip.com guided tour that includes entry (the operator grabs your timed slot); for the museum, reserve the instant its daily window opens. Your hotel concierge can help with any of these.

The War Chest · Logistics

Everything a hero needs, packed.

The unglamorous magic that makes a money-no-object trip actually run smoothly — where to sleep, how to move, and what to lock in before you fly.

🏯 Where to Sleep

Unique over generic — hotels that are an experience themselves.

  • Chengdu — The Temple House design entered through a 100-year-old courtyard, in the middle of the Taikoo Li shopping & ACG zone. (Alt: Ritz-Carlton, Niccolo.)
  • Chongqing — InterContinental Raffles City wow lobby inside "The Crystal," a horizontal skyscraper / skybridge 250 m up where the two rivers meet.
  • Beijing — Mandarin Oriental Wangfujing central Forbidden-City views, by the Gundam Base. Plus Universal Studios Grand Hotel for the park days and Aman Summer Palace for one magical night.

🚄 Getting Around

Fast, easy, and chauffeured where it counts.

  • Chengdu → Chongqing by high-speed rail — barely ~1 hour city to city.
  • Chongqing → Beijing by air — ~2.5 hours nonstop.
  • Private guide + driver for day-trips (Sanxingdui, Leshan/Emei, Wolong, Wulong, Dazu, the Great Wall) — no logistics stress.
  • In the cities — spotless metros, or DiDi (China's Uber) for door-to-door.

📱 Money & Connectivity

Sort this before you fly and the rest is frictionless.

  • eSIM loaded before departure for instant data on landing.
  • Alipay & WeChat Pay linked to a foreign card — they now work for tourists and run almost everything. Cash is rarely used.
  • Passports are needed for train travel, SIMs, and many attraction entries — carry them.
  • Set up any VPN you want for home apps before you arrive.

🌡️ Heat & Health

August is hot and humid — plan around it and it's no problem.

  • Chongqing is "the Furnace" (38°C+): big sights early or after dark, AC/pool through mid-afternoon.
  • Sun hats, refillable water, electrolyte packets for everyone.
  • A light rain shell for Sichuan's afternoon showers and Beijing thunderstorms.
  • Motion-sickness tabs for the toboggan, boats, and mountain roads.

🎟️ Book Ahead

Summer sells out — lock these in early.

  • Wukong concert — done! ✅ (Check your ticket tier's gift bundle.)
  • Universal Beijing tickets + Express Pass (huge time-saver in summer) + an on-resort hotel for Early Park Admission.
  • Forbidden City timed entry, Chengdu panda morning slot, Wolong keeper program, Great Wall.
  • Re-verify the panda bases ~2 weeks out — Dujiangyan is under renovation; confirm Wolong/Chengdu status.

🎒 The Hero's Pack

Light, breathable, and ready for loot.

  • Breathable clothes, comfy walking shoes, swimwear for every hotel pool.
  • Power bank + universal adapter; phones stay charged for maps, pay, and photos.
  • A foldable duffel for the Gunpla haul on the way home.
  • Mini first-aid kit, copies of passports, and a visa/entry check before booking — China's rules have been easing, so confirm what applies to your passports.
